Nearest.

Nearest.

A Poem by Fay Slimm

Nearest.

Loving things nearest to hand

I must consider the Dandelion.

Mane of spun gold opens bands

of allure as eye and aroma align.

Fired by sun seduction attracts

passing insects intent on dining.

Bosom exposed lightening action

releases droplets of scent- design.

Seeing the spread feelers fasten

on insect nectar for feeding time.

Such a clever self-spreading ranks

as first class intelligence to admire.

Sensing feast splay an unwrapped

tongue greedily laps at artful invite.

Pollen can sweeten hidden language

because flies ignore dandelion's guile.

Noteworthy successful at spreading

itself this little plant stirs the fancy.

Yet no poet unbent will catch Heaven

    giving merely one indifferent glance.

The Dandy Lion seems to be getting increased poetic exposure this spring
They are as unwelcome inside our formal garden areas as are the beautiful deer but the fact they herald the ending of winter's cold is reason enough to welcome them anywhere else.
Preferably in other gardens

not a problem

admittedly, they do look pretty and if they were not so invasive, I would love them dearly and allow to flourish... they are after all a flower, aren't they... I do like many weeds by the way.. and wild flowers... I just prefer dandelions elsewhere other than in my garden... it might be different tomorrow tho... who knows... Neville :)

Good - I am in favour of submitting to roles of lions on lawns - - -as long as they're known as Dand.. read more
the files know not what they are missing.
Yes, they are considered eyesores on a lawn, but I love them.

And I have some in my yard now. Means spring is on the doorstep and it makes me smile, as does your poem.
