Sparkle.

Sparkle.

A Poem by Fay Slimm
"

A two-year-old tribute to New Year recently tweaked but hope you enjoy.

"

Sparkle.

No night could be darker than this.
Starless and chilled,
its breath thickens with cold the minutes
of 2019 remaining
and snaps at the old year's sap until
clock's final chimes ring out defeat.

Then starts the colours of change.

No sky could be lit more than this.
No show so bright
while firework frenzy ends shivers
of London crowd's wait
and lifts the mind of ice-raked spirit
to awe-raised warmth of New Year.

Firework sparkle earns hurrays.

Although I hail from our capital city, I have not experienced New Year fireworks in the flesh so to speak. I do watch every year on TV and thoroughly look forward to the splendour of the whole spectacle. Magnificent colours, exotic shapes and all that sparkle. Will be watching again tonight. Happy New Year Fay. Your poem painted it all to perfection.

each new year starts out with so much hope and expectations for better things.
There is a fireworks display that signifies celebration of out with the old, in with the new.
but i feel this poem also warns us...or at least makes us have a wish that this new year will not have its chimes ring out defeat.
starting over at least gives us an opportunity....for peace and love.

I can't imagine what a fireworks display in a city the size of London must be like, but your words and pictures have given us a good idea.

I love fireworks. So nicely written with such lovely pics there.

I love the way you use light & dark as symbols of what the old & new year mean. I'm not into holiday celebrations much, but the only thing I like about New Years is the fireworks, so I really relate to the way you play with light & dark & end up with fireworks! Here's hoping I'll be honored to read more of your writing in 2020 & I hope you enjoy writing more & more! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
