Catchtrap.

Catchtrap.

A Poem by Fay Slimm

Catchtrap.

Crouched in viewing the shivering cobweb

craftily spanning a waterfall's edge

I saw fine precision-knifed filaments

cunningly strung with infinite wisdom.

A weightless weapon of swinging steel,

death-celled bed spun on gossamer wheel.

That devilish duvet of glistening gauze

betokened real craft as the spider paused

then in obscurity tensed for success,

alert with magnetic insect suppression.

Hairily silent as tensile wires, cleverly glued

met miniscule life of wriggling food

that by moving caught death in but seconds

while spider gave fly lethal injections.

As water's curtain cascaded to ground

and whirling catch-trap spun victim around

fed spider wiped mouth, cleaned sticky legs,

repaired any holes and prepared for the next.

Woah! I loved the flow. Poesia now gives ideas about all kind of poetry apart from the ones I've been reading since years. This is catchy! Shivering and great! I'm saving this for the next issue. :) Thank for dropping this on Poesia. I'm sending read requests to my friends so they can enjoy this too.
Keep up with you awesome write.

my pleasure entirely Fay... and Seasons Best to thee....
I think Mr. Darwin would have liked this one. Nature is definitely not sentimental. And yet, there is a strange beauty co-existing with the struggle for survival. Spiders, though predators, are nature's architects, and their web creations, as depicted here, are both beautiful and practical. A nicely rhymed word picture here, illustrating two apparently opposite, yet complementary facets of our world.

Your description of a fly being trapped in a web is unique & full of sparkling details . . . I could picture it vividly. But this is also a compelling way to think about many aspects of living . . . in this spider-eats-fly world *sigh!* I find it interesting how your wording feels like heavy artillary, whereas the spider & web do this magic in a seemingly subtle & ephemeral way (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

the gossamer circles of the web...i am always blown away how beautifully the spider creates its web...
and yet in that beauty...is the kill, the victim fly, wriggling, fearing, screaming, Help me Help me.
there is beauty in destruction...or vice-versa...humans are often so similar...your poem exposes this with excellent allegory.
