Who I Am.

Who I Am.

A Poem by Fay Slimm

Who I Am.

Liberation-discharge has a loud call, need
to unwind shouts boldly
as the fettered mind feels no better until
it achieves de-control.

Caged, a muzzled soul will unravel slowly
wanting freedom concealed
in convention yet struggle slowly widens
stress-bars for more relief.

So release me, unhand my heart disband
this neglected affair
and leave hold of erroneous persuasion
that shackled stands for care.

Who I am is unique and meant to flap
dried wings then celebrate
life as a personal journey, not letting
others dictate my state.

Sounds like a relationship that became too confining. There comes a time to declare independence before atrophy sets in. Very good imagery, very good rhyming.

i think once we figure out who we are and are free to be ourselves...the wings that may have been clipped or damaged may once again find flight.
I really like the personification used here, it works so well....

A load of thanks for your read and review - so pleased you enjoyed Who I Am.
In different ways, I've felt myself roaring a similar rant of independence between ages 50 & 63. Maybe it was growing up with mom's generation & five much-older sisters setting the example for polite acquiescence among females. Or maybe it was living most of my life trying not to ruffle any feathers. Suddenly I'm in my mid-60's & I can't find a ripping s**t to give about what other people think of how I live! This sense of revival is understandable & refreshing in your poem (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
