Crying Wolf.

 

 

 

Eerie howling, wolf-hound calling,
amber eyes alight.
Spirit of the steepest mountain
stealthy pads the night.

 

Distant hunting, litters growing,
feral parents proud.
Livestock missing, farmers arming,
thieving disallowed.

 

Tortured trappings, party shootings,
stalkings after dark.
Sightings now of wolf packs only
in a Nature Park.

 

Pressured lifestyle, fragile living,
species on the wane,
Now mere myth and legend honour
canine of wild fame.

It's intriguing how you tell a very sad tale but using brisk unemotional brush strokes to paint the picture. The staccato listing of observations gives this a fatalistic feeling, a spiraling from good to bad to worse to resignation. The ending is simmering so caustic & ironic, it's more powerful than if you had ranted about it (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thanks Margie for your in-put on Crying Wolf - - - they as wild canines get quite a raw deal and I wanted to bring their fate to attention of readers - - glad you enjoyed the style I used - the clip-clop short dash of lines exposed the place such creatures now have in our view of a more man-space now needed for land's future.
