Oh Sleep, blesséd eraser of anything painful, hard or serrated, you smoother of all things feeling rough, cover me over in enough soothing cream to remind me that troubles can melt into dreams, for lightning found and hit me tonight like a frightful assassin, attack from behind stabbed me in my back now to my knees, shiveringly near to fear and desperation it has produced an ill-at-ease. Sleep, be my ally, please lie with me until day, embrace me in hazy unconscious relief then release me when better able to fight. Right now I am tired, such bad news has confused freedom of thought, faith abused, now I need time for re-alignment, so sink me Sleep into your blankness, reduce my anxiety douse the fire of resentment, relax the intent for dire revenge and kill my recent insensibility, Sleep, keep me with you until I see clearer what is the wisest to do, float by me your boatful of lullabies, Oh Phantom I know that most welcome land awaits so take my hand, then float me away
You state here so eloquently how bad news can strike like a thunderbolt leaving a person almost shell shocked, not knowing what to do next. Those times can be exhausting on the mind and yet sleep which would temporarily ease the pain, is hard to come by. Many is the time I have been in that place, begging that sleep would come to me to obliterate for a while what is hard to endure. Anything to float away. Your poetic expression here is excellent. A superb write Fay.

Being a wild insomniac myself, I wouldn't cry out for sleep to save me from anything, becuz it won't. That aside, your poem is amazingly creative in terms of how you convey the sensations of being shocked & feeling revenge, both as a straightforward expression of where this narrator is coming from, but also laced with intense-feeling imagery. I prefer a straightforward storyline myself, but I also love showing thru imagery as you've done here. The roiling, grinding, endless waves of intensity pour forth from your lines (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Fay, insomnia makes the worst days and nights near horrific. How many times we lie in the dark, dreaming of sleep, its peace, its escape, wanting only to wake well rested, the sun streaming through the blinds. You paint an image here packed with emotion. The art makes your poem even more compelling. A remarkable work.

The great reprieve from pretending everyday life makes any sense and we are not all just a bunch of kids who grew up wondering if there is really any real grown ups around.
No matter what dreams and even nightmares enter our minds, it is rarely more confusing and strange as what reality throws at us.
Personally, my waking life consists mostly of daydreaming about my bed and how soon i can return to my cocoon.
Your last line is a great way to end this... And possibly begin part two of what could be a saga, taking you from sleep to waking.
Me likey 😀
