Forsaken.

Forsaken.

A Poem by Fay Slimm

Forsaken.

They pass unnoticed in café crowds,
the black-penciled eyes of
pre-teen beggar girls.

Treading cement dust they strut, mouths
painted in innocence but out,
adult ways to learn.

Flaunting bodies not yet mature, how
tragic the flesh-trade making
young w****s of the poor.

Such females led to de-flowering
expect no better passage
to paying futures.

When will this cruel insane world yield
to the needs of these forsaken children ?

Fay, I as read this piece, I thought about how such things were once confined to third world countries. It's now all over the US, even the smallest and most rural areas. Human trafficking, for sex and labor, is a growing problem worldwide, made easier for traffickers with social media, and a tragic trap for a generation (girls and boys) who find refuge and comfort online. You've captured that tragedy well in this poem. Regrettably, I have no answer to the question in your last stanza. Moving work, Fay.

There are sadly those who don't care about life other than their own and what they can do to others to better their own lot. It's sad how much we humans can lack humanity.

and the worst part of it is that most of them think this is the life they deserve...which is so untrue...having to grow up so young and sell themselves for food and shelter...
no one should live like this...you capture this so well with your words...you put us in the thoughts and hearts of those who are insanely made to survive at such a young age.
well done, Fay,

I watched a TV programme a couple of days ago about young girls being forced into this work. I'm pretty sure it was in Bangladesh where whole villages had been set up with literally hundreds of girls, some as young as eleven waiting for trains carrying men to arrive where they were paid for their services. In this day and age it beggars belief that children are little more than a commodity to be used and abused in this way. It is truly shocking as well as sickening. Thank you Fay for raising this subject and reminding us of their plight, and not forgetting that we have some of this going on closer to home. Eloquent as always, you have touched on a subject that needs to be aired and frequently.
