Need.

Need.

A Poem by Fay Slimm

Need.

And the moment dawned when need

shattered convention

danced on wrought patterns of

unspoken intention

and we gently kissed.

And the time for yielding arrived,

steel clamps receded

and colour invaded dull monotone

as love's lamps lit shadows

in folded lives.

And warmth of affection started

new fiery sparks

while unused satisfaction

crooned forgotten ballads

to lonely hearts.

Hello, Fay. Lovely to read your poetry. This one made me think of the idea that there is a season for all things. A time to give of oneself and a time to hold back. There can be beauty in holding back just like there is beauty in giving fully of the self.

I really enjoyed your mixture of hard and soft descriptions in the poem. Like: gently kissed vs steel clamps...those details really helped me to sense the tension that was shattered by the decision to give in to feeling. I suppose one of our greatest gifts is being able to choose. I love where that gift leads in this poem.

Wonderfully hidden visuals.. if that makes sense! Your words are surely aligning with previously hidden desires, emotions simmering. But, now, restraint be damned, time's arrived - nothing else matters., '.. time for yielding arrived, - steel clamps receded.' You've used such passionate phrasing yet.. managed to keep your language subtle. Need, for sure and - beautiful, Fay.

Meant every word, Fay - your post is wrapped in so, so many emotions.

from tiny fiery sparks did grow mighty bush fires all aglow ..... that was me just being daft.... excuse me.. this is surely a poem and a half part love and covertly erotic .. wholly poetic and deeply moving.... N
