Prison

Prison

A Poem by Fat

Like a child behind steel bars,
a young man is seated in a room.

The only thing standing between him
and the rest of the world, is a window.

But seemingly, he has grown displeased of the world.

He lacks interest
in its twists and turns. Alone.
Trapped between his four white walls,
he seems peaceful. Though, at the same time...
he stares out the window with such will.

One would mistake him for a man
who craves to interact with his own kind,
aching for the feeling of the epic sun
burning through his flawed skin.

He fears that the ferocity of jealous eyes
will chase his sanity away.

I really like this. It's strong, but melancholy. Very interesting read. Great job!

Just Plain Me - Thank you! :) I think the better question is, why wouldn't you be cruel? ;)

Viju - You nailed it. Although the insecurity and social awkwardness is more due to a mental condition than a physical one. Oh, and thanks. :)

Mariposa Una Lila - Thanks a lot!

Vitamin A - I'm glad you enjoyed it! ... Gotta fix that typo :P

I really enjoy the way you compare life in prison to the real world. You seem to capture the despair quite well.

Typo: second line from bottom: jealous

The contradictory feelings are neatly captured. Insecurity and social awkwardness due to a physical condition but the desire to contact and a forced loneliness? Is that what the poem means?
The third person narrative being merely observing and offering sympathy, is cruel, I think.
