I knewA Poem by Farrah Grahm
I knew I knew when I let the tears fall as I sat in front of someone I loved
Thinking, there's nothing wrong with this leakage. I had watched her cry, I'd held her, and stayed strong for her Then I told her my story, and for the first time since I let that red rose Fall six feet below The smile I wore to remind myself I was still here above solid earth Shook as my face shook, than fell away. I knew that I truly knew when I nodded the thought into existence That persistent thought that stays with me each and every day When I think about how real my expiration date is And how early theirs came I didn't ask questions, I answered them. I accepted it. In front of a stranger, I let the elusive truth sink in Two years later And now, I know that I know And the world still isn't over. © 2010 Farrah Grahm |
