where the deer run

where the deer run

A Poem by FarisGreybear

"Where the Deer Run"
by Farris Graybear; KY, USA
Saturday, 2 August 2014 A.D.

bands of black and brown, rich fertile ground
much like the bench of the knob, at the trail

where the deer run, and hoofprints are found
all of this between rows of peppers and kale

earthworms throughout, subterranean pasta
much like the roots of the plants, as they grow

where the clear sun beams for Stephen Foster
in the bluegrass plains the time creeps slow

'maters slowly ripen red from striped green
more like the wild cherry bark, up the trunk

where the tears run for the true love I've seen
transplants have become bushes, roots are sunk

waters sponged by the clays, filtered by the silts
nourishing my produce, soon to be bountiful harvest

where the cheer is sung, with bagpipes and kilts
the giving and kindness of Our Provider is marvelous
