Thanks for Asking

In daily conversations of prayer, what do you think of my requests God,
I'm hoping that you said Thanks for Asking, because I get very needy.
I always forget what I was praying for though, and I just give thanks.

If only I could think more highly of myself, my prayers would be greedy.

As for the Sun, the Wind, and the Rain, what's that 800 number again?
I'm betting that you said Thanks for Asking, because it's in my contacts.
I always forget the numbers to dial though, and I just push the names.

If only I could read all of the fine print, and understand all the contracts.

Heal me Lord, fill the hole in my soul, will it ever get better, oh please.
I'm praying that you said Thanks for Asking, now I'm serious, help me.
I always forget the answers, and then ask all the wrong questions.
Thanks for everything, always, you're awesome, now can you tell me?

I proudly admit being a former seminarian, although I'm no longer roman catholic. anywho, with all due respect to the seriousness of prayer. this is actually a third person piece, that I wrote, playing the roles of Big Gay Al and Mister Slave, characters from a cartoon show called south park. "I'm super, thanks for asking!" I always try to weave so many layers into my work, so as to be like a kaleidoscope, reflecting different colors, depending upon from which angle it's viewed. I would never admit this "secret" behind the poem to my three kids. best to leave it in the closet, ha ha. but seriously, sometimes i do laugh when i pray, and smile. God is my best friend, and then there's my better half. clearly prayers are answered, and i have more blessings than I count. Wa-do Jamestown. How fortunate we truly are to be so cared for and provided by the loving creator. A-ho, gi-ga'i! :D
