Chapter 3- ProtectorA Chapter by JasleenGabriel. I couldn't believe it was really him. We were best friends when we were younger, then out of nowhere he just disappeared. His parents knew where he was but, they wouldn't tell anyone. Not even me.
FLASHBACK!
"TELL ME WHERE HE IS!" My nine year old self yelled at Gabriel's parents. My small frame shook with anger.
"Shayna calm down please. Just know that he is okay." His mom said while putting her hand on my shoulder. I shook it off.
"I WANT GABRIEL! He promised me he would play with me." My usually high voice cracked as I broke into a sob. I just want my friend. Why won't they let me see him?
"Don't worry hunny." She pulled me into a hug. "You will see him again. That's a promise."
A lone tear fell down my cheek as I shook away those sad memories. I stared back into the ocean that filled Gabriel's eyes. He was here! Right in front of me! I ran up to him, pushing everyone out of my way. I hit his hard rock chest and wrapped my arms around him. The warmth from his body immediatly enveloped me like a warm blanket. He stiffened as Roman growled then pulled me away. I slapped his hand then turned to face Roman.
"What was that for!" I yelled.
"I will not having my Luna touching another man." He said in a cool tone.
"He's my friend you jerk! I haven't seen him in 10 years! And if you put your hands on me one more time you will not like the consequences!" I yelled. I knew my wolf was slowly taking over and it wasnt me talking anymore. I could feel my skin start to tingle and I forced her into the back of my mind. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. As I opened my eyes all the pack members except for Roman were bowing again.
"What is going on?" I asked confused. Roman had a shocked expression on his face as he said.
"No one knows. You were talking and everyone had an urge to bow to you. Everyone except for me."
"Alpha may I say something? I may have the answers you are looking for." Gabriel said as everyone started to get back up. Roman nodded his head and Gabriel turned to face me.
"Shayna. 10 years ago I had to leave you to fulfill my calling. As you may know I'm not..... Normal. Do you remember the time our parent's told us about the legend of Calum and Solina?"
"Yes I do. They were the strongest wolves of all wolves. What does that have to do with any of this?" I said.
"Calum and Solina had a certain breed given to them by the moon goddess. This breed was to serve and protect them their whole life. When Calum and Solina died these protectors died with them. Now to answer your question. Protectors are half Werewolves half Angel. They are known to be immune to everything and the only way to kill them is to kill the person they are protecting. Shayna when we were nine I had to leave for training. I am a protector. I was chosen to protect someone who would become the strongest wolf of all wolves. That person is you Shayna. From the day you were born Solina chose you as her vessel to lead the new world out of darkness. As for you Roman. Calum has also chosen you as his vessel. You two are the strongest wolves to date making you King and Queen of all wolves."
It seemed as if the whole world stopped moving. In that moment it was just me. I couldn't say anything as I went into shock.
"Solina?" I called out hoping she would hear me.
"I'm here dear." She said. Well she sounded rather nice when she wasn't arguing with me. "I heard that." She said. I just laughed and said.
"Oh yeah I forgot you where in my head."
"I believe you have some questions you want to ask me?"
"Yeah. Why didn't you ever tell me any of this?" I questioned.
"It wasn't the right time." She said.
"It wasn't the right time! I've had nineteen years of not knowing what I was to become. I had you to talk to my whole life and you tell me it's not the right time! Solina please give me something better than that nonsense." I scoffed. My vision went black and when it came back I was standing over my now limp body. A beautiful woman with long golden brown hair, was standing on the opposite side of my body facing me. She was dressed in a flowing white gown that brought out her eyes. Her eyes were green like mine except her pupils were outlined in silver.
"Solina?" I questioned.
"Yes it's me."
"What happened?" I said pointing at my body laying beneath me.
"I wanted to show you something."
"Am I dead?"
"No Shayna you're not dead. Why would I kill off my vessel before using her?" A slight grin spread across her face
"So if I'm not dead, what do you want to show me?" As soon as I said that the whole area around me started to shake. I looked at Roman who was now holding me in his arms. He didn't even notice the shaking. Solina came to stand next to me and she held my hand. I closed my eyes and heard screaming and crying. The smell of blood filled my nostrils as I opened my eyes. People were running away and grabbing their crying children, as massive black wolves feasted on the ones they killed. Sand from a deserted area danced in the wind.
"Where are we?" I asked Solina. She had tears in her eyes as she said.
"This is where I died."
"Why would you bring me here?" I remember from the legend that Solina and Calum were attacked in their sleep. The enemy, who was never mentioned in the story, killed and left no survivors. They were ruthless and didn't care about anyone.
"I was pregnant the night I died." She said. Tears started streaming down her face. I just gripped her hand and pulled her away from the gruesome scene.
"That night was the night I told Calum I was pregnant. He was so excited but worried at the same time. I wasn't able to shift because I feared it would hurt our baby. He sung to our child the whole night, And held me as we fell asleep. I awoke shaking only to hear the screams of women, men, and children. I tried to go out and help but Calum stopped me. He had my protector stay with me as he went to help. I don't know how long I sat there waiting for Calum to come back until I felt the most unbearable pain shoot through my heart. I tried to get up but fell straight down. The pain subsided and I knew at that moment what happened. Calum was dead. I growled and ran out of the tent. I knew I only had a few minutes before I joined my mate. Until then I was going to make everyone who killed him suffer. I saw Calum tied up with a pole sticking out through his chest. I couldn't control my shift as I unleashed on everyone that was near him. All they did was laugh until they saw me coming. I managed to kill 4 out of the 5 guys near him. I dropped to my knees as the pain came back, knowing it was my time to join Calum. As I sat there waiting for my life to end I caught a glimpse of the last man I missed."
We turned around to see the whole scene being reenacted. The last man turned around to face us. I realized who this man was.
"Daddy?" I said.
"No Shayna. Your real father was murdered by the man you call your father. Your father sold you to Roman knowing you were his mate. The man you see here is his very, very old grandfather."
"Why would he do that to me?" I yelled while trying to hold back the tears that were threatening to escape.
"He is a terrible man. He told Roman that he killed your father because your mom ran away from him. What actually happened was that he saw your mom and dad so happy and in love. He wanted his mate so bad he killed him and kidnapped her. She's been too afraid to speak up."
I was too stunned to say anything. I just sat there absorbing the information. After about five minutes Solina spoke up.
"I want you to know that Roman is only trying to protect you. Yeah he can be a major jerk at times but he is a really good guy. I know because he is just like Calum. He has Calum just like you have me. You have to promise me you will give him a shot and you will protect him with your life. I won't lose Calum twice and I don't want you to know how it feels at all."
"I promise Solina."
"Good. Now let's go back before Roman kills the pack doctor." She smiled and I giggled. For the first time, I knew what I was. I'm proud of who I am, and believe me, my so called dad is going to have hell to pay when I wake up.
So for now I let the darkness take me back to my body. © 2013 Jasleen |
