Kuss

Kuss

A Poem by Ben Walton
"

"Shut the window love, Keep the world outside."

"

I'm sorry.
Seven months,
relived,
reloved,
recounted
with seven letters.
It's funny how two words can fix so many things
while breaking so many more.
Soon enough everything will be broken
but I like where I am right now.
But it's funny,
I'm finally close and all I want to do is push you away.
We're finally here and here's the only place we don't want to be,
and now is the only time I've felt like this.

I can see the fireflies that we're mistaking for stars,
and I can hear the fireworks that are replacing the stars;
the stars we spent nights wishing I could see.
The stars I wish I got to see before I realized
how big of a number ninety is.

But the streetlights are drowning out the stars
and there's no more soft white light to lull your mind asleep.
The wrong questions have only been giving the wrong answers
and it's obvious you'd be better off if you never said a thing.
The side walks are only getting narrow
and the lights keep getting brighter.
Soon we won't be able to wish our way back home
and the doors won't let us back in.
So how about we stay inside?
Soon enough we'll lose or way
and our words won't be able to correct themselves.
We'll get lost in a language
that gets lost in our speech
and our words won't be coherent
and there's no such thing
as making amends.
It's all turning to a rainy day that will never leave
and you're turning away like you never want to see me again
cause it's a cuss and a kiss that'll leave me begging for anything.
