Mess Of Fireflies

Mess Of Fireflies

A Poem by Ben Walton
"

"A waking nightmare that is only worse when I am sleeping."

"

he caterpillars emerge from their caccoons
At the first contact.
So beautiful at first until you get closer and examine,
Only to find they're vile.
Atrocious.
Ugly.

So much like fireflies;
Only bright when you want to see them,
Only dark when everything is okay.
Flickering on and off
Humming in time.
One two three
One two three
One two three.
Doing a lovely waltz
Infront of your eyes

Well you were in that mess of fireflies
As they were waltzing about, flashing their uncomfort lights;
Attending to the dark that they made bright.
I tried to capture you,
Use you as my nightlight
But it was too dark, and your best friends
Couldn't ever light your way back home.
So you go back in your caccoon,
It's too cold to come out in the summer.
It's always too cold for now.
It's always too cold for now.

To use a butterfly at your disposal...It's harsh! To keep all that beauty for yourself seems quite selfish. No matter, I like this piece! Nice!
