SnowA Poem by JohnA free-verse poemWho would have guessed something that looks so innocent could be so harmful? Many people say they know but they don't Anger fills my heart when they joke about it They have no idea the harm it causes, the damage it causes The consequences are an afterthought roaming through the loneliness in their mind No care no love just the constant thought of it They say: “Just go to rehab” but they don't know how it feels, the struggle, the suffering The consequences slip through their mind with no knowledge of past or future adversity It being as small but expensive as it is has the impact of a bullet Though not as quick as one they slowly build a tower that is doomed to fall Regret and forgiveness fills their minds instantly The doctors think they know the pain, the struggle, the impact but they don’t Though their family fights their minds are still flooded with the idea of it They stop at nothing for it and they will do anything for it Who knew people would go insane over an item so small it can fit in a spoon Flames make it stronger, the needle makes it quicker, no more wait time just instant satisfaction Pretending to not know of it anymore they are relentless Constantly using that burnt, cracked spoon hiding with a lighter in a corner The same yellow stained needle accompanied by a shoelace and a small plastic bag They can feel the tower getting taller until one day it collapses Falling like the tower they have built that would inevitably fall Their minds racing with regret The thought of dying injects itself into their mind Who knows but them what happens in that moment since no one else but them will know Waking up in a bed they are relieved though the tower is still collapsing The doctor knows now, he’s fairly certain of it The information haunts the room and terrifies everyone in it They all know that the tower has collapsed after years of building it 10 years and thousands of dollars worth of it led up to this point Their hearts beating viciously and so is everyone's What can they do? What will they do? The doctor says there is no hope, no chance of walking again Their minds have been hit with a tsunami though the thought of it still lingers The tower has collapsed and now they all know © 2018 JohnAuthor's Note
