Butterflies and Ashes.

Butterflies and Ashes.

A Chapter by FallenFate

Darkness. That's what always came first in these dreams. I couldn't breath, something was blocking my airways. Water. It was black water, no matter how hard I struggled, I couldn't reach the surface. I clawed and reached for what I thought was up, the way out. I broke through the water and took a deep breath. But when I did, I breathed in smoke and I choked out water and smoke. A strong hand came from the darkness of the water, gripping my arm and yanking me out of the water. A strong torso was attatched to the hand, and a beautiful face accompanied the perfect body. He seemed almost godlike compared to me, I felt small and helpless when he touched me. I tried to thank him, but he only put a finger to my lips and smiled. He leaned down, as if to kiss me. For a brief moment, his perfectly sculpted lips touched mine...

The dream didn't end there like it always did. When our lips, I saw his eyes grow hungry and dark. The protective, loving grip he had on me turned aggresive and angry. He snarled and thrw me back in the water. The waves crashed back and forth and something hard hit my head. Eveything went hazy, it grew darker and darker until I could see nothing. I still felt everything. My head hurt, my limbs were numb, and I couldn't breath. I heard the soft flutter of wings. Behind the darkness, I saw a glowing, blue light. I struggled to open them to see what it was that came closer to me. The light danced closer until I felt something touch my eye lids softly. Only then could I open my eyes; when I did, I saw a luminous, blue butterfly.

It fluttered away and I tried to follow. I walked on nothing, it was black all around me. Still I followed, grasping at it with my hungry fingers; catching nothing. The butterfly and I danced. Around and round we went, like the nursery rhyme...

Ring around the rosies,

Pocket full of Posies.

Ashes, ashes,

We all fall down...

We all fall down. Falling...falling..into the ashes. Out of the ashes, born again.

By now, the butterfly was gone and I stood in the dark. My head bowed, looking at my feet, seeing nothing. I felt a vibration, and the beneath my feet, blue light glowed, water rippled and I fell.
