Don't Ask of MeA Poem by A.NoelJust something I threw together one night...
You, dearest lover,
Mean more than words convey. To be with one another, Brings hope to my next day. But do not ask me to give, My heart unguarded to you. For as long as I live, That will be one thing I'll never do. Why, you ask, must I refuse? How could this be what I choose? I've found it safer to stay apart, Then risk inevitable pain. For if I will but guard my heart, There'll be no loss, no gain. How could one so young as I, Wish for love to simply die? It comes and goes as it desires, Leaving its victims in its wake. It uses, then forces passion's fire, To simply drown in Lost Love's lake. So, dear lover, don't ask of me, To set my heart yet once more free. For I promise this will never be, And I should have to leave you then.
