Naked Truth

under the facade lies the naked truth

a tempting angels smile
that masked the devils glare
a trap set to entice me
into your wicked snare

the naked truth came out
in the stark sunlight
that you always kept hidden
under the velvet cover of night

your sugary sweet facade
melted when placed in the heat
you gripped my heart in your hands
and choked it to its final beat

you caressed my tender spirit
while dragging me so far down
i could not see the ending
as it was my soul that you drowned

you clung to me so tightly
i suffocated in your embrace
you told me that you love me
then in turn spit venom in my face

a wolf in lambs soft clothing
wanting all of my love and devotion
you finalized the death of true love
when you trampled on my emotions

disrespected and beaten to a bloody pulp
by the horrid anger that you displayed
i left my entire being out in the open
and it was my frailty that you flayed

listening to your promises to change
i took you back time and time again
swept up once more by your words of love
as you begged me not to let it end

the time has now come
for you to finally get a deserved taste
of the hell that you put me through
as i put you in your rightful place

you must have thought i was stupid
and that you could use me for your pleasure
but you were the weak one
that broke under the pressure

more then once in a short span of time
your jealousy got the best of you
which turned into a rage filled anger
as you screamed in my face "we're through"

you used my words that you twisted
to try to tear my spirit apart
but somewhere along this broken line
you underestimated the strength of my heart

in the anger and the pain of your words
my heart did break and gush out blood
then i came to realize all that you professed
were not true words of eternal love

it was your pathetic attempt
to get the attention you thought you needed
now i see more clearly into you
as all of the pain has receded

i would love to say that i hate you
as you have so forcefully said to me
but the feeling that i have for you is pity
as you struggle to find out who you need to be

take this as my final farewell
i know that you will twist my words once more
at least i can hold my head up high
as i walk calmly through the open door

there is no set rhythm for this as it is with most of my writing. please excuse the fact if it does not flow seamlessly.

wow what a powerful poem , the end of a relationship can be a bitter time marred by memories you would rather forget . or if we are lucky , we can hang on to a few precious moments that we would never want to erase from our minds , the strength of this poem speaks of a whole world of hurt ,
it is a sad poem but strangely , a brilliant read .

Such a sad poem but unfortunatly this is many situations. As you said, the rhythm is somewhat off, though the poem was still great. wonderful use of rhymes. Keep writing!
