A Kiss Too Late

when the last kiss is a heartbeat too late

I place a kiss on your cold lips
as my tears fall on your staring eyes.
A heated breath lodges in my throat
when I realize it is a kiss too late.

Your skin is like fragile porcelain
pale and frozen in that moment of time.
I place my head on your still chest
only to hear my pounding heart scream.

I raise your frigid palm to my cheek
begging for you to return to me.
Your eyes remain unseeing into space
as my pleading falls onto closed ears.

Woah...how powerful is this? A kiss too late is the perfect title for this body of work. I mean, it is a total sad story, but so full of emotion. I love it, and I'm going to add it to my favorites, if that is alright with you. This really touched me, and reminded me of my grandmother.
