School Days Golden Rule Days

School Days Golden Rule Days

A Poem by Falcon1

My Mother tried to teach me what my father could not teach me
For he did not learn the golden rules
But my mother did her best at reading  writings and arithmetic
In my early years then I was on my own

Say in the sixth grade I was teaching my lessons by reading my books
and doing it all by hand.
The computers were not available as of yet
I had to use my fingers and my toes

and learn my math tables
spelling and reading
proper english
Oh gee wiz

Crime in the streets of America
NBC nightly news
Vietnam War Drugs on the street of America
Pot smoking hippy college bound

Civil rights activists
Marching on Washington DC
Thats the way I grown up
Watching the NBC nightly news broadcast.

This couldn't be more different from my own upbringing, which I just wrote about & posted in "Santa Barbara"! No regular TV here until I was in my 40's! It really does shape our world view, depending on what we watch! Enjoyed this intro into your life & interests (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
