5A Chapter by Eliza Jones
I don't know how I will explain this to Sara and Steaven, when I don't even understand what is going on. All I know is that Dad says it's crucial to get to his house immediately. As I walk up the stairs to Sara's room, I contemplate what I want to say. I arrive at the door way before i'm ready.
As i open the door, i take a deep breath. Sara, as usual hits me with a million questions at once. "Who is that man? Where are our parents? And the boys? whats going on? Why did- UMHPPPH" she ends, as I cover her mouth. "I don't really know what's going on," I begin carefully. "What I do know is that it is very, very important to get to the man's house right now. So get two pairs of shorts, two shirts, a sweatshirt, one thing that's important to you, and meet me in the sitting room. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Once Im in my room, I choose my favorite shirt and short combos, a warm sweatshirt, and the china doll I've had as long as I can remember. Its a standard, 18 inch doll that looks exactly like me. Well, almost exactly. I now realize that its probably an even blend of my parent's features. After a quick second thought, I break open my college savings jar, which probably contains over a thousand by now, as I've been filling it from the time I was 8. All I have has always gone into this jar. I remove all the bills and coins and stuff them in my wallet, which then goes in my back pocket. If Im going to take care of this family, Im going to need some serious coin I sit down on the bed and try not to freak out. Most 13 year old girls would crack under this kind of pressure. My parents are gone, my older brothers are gone, and it's now up to me to protect my little siblings. I don't know how on earth I am going to survive this. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I am the first downstairs. Figures. Sara, ever the logical little thing, is probably going through all her clothes, trying to decide which would be the most practical. Steaven, the wildcard, is probably doing completely the opposite of what I asked him to. "Did you tell them?" Dad asks, a serious look on his face for once. "I.... prepared them. I told them that I didn't know much about the situation, except that we need to go with you," I say, "which, frankly, is the truth." He smiles at me. "Okay. I think we can figure out how to break the news gently. Is that your stuff?" he nods to the bag in my arm. When I nod back, he takes it and heads out to put it in the car, I assume. With a sigh, I turn to go hurry Sara and Steven along. © 2014 Eliza Jones |
