When I was a DemonA Poem by astoundinglyattractiveThey say you can’t believe in Heaven if you don’t believe in Hell And you must believe in God, for from Heaven Satan fell. Well I have met Satan, and he’s nothing but a man Who goes to church on Sundays and prays with folded hands. It was a long while back, so my memory may falter, But I swear Satan was kneeling there, just before the alter. I went up to talk to him, for I knew not who he was And when he looked me in the eye, I felt tied by a clause. He took me by the arm and led me down the aisle And the other demons stared as I tasted bile. And just before the majestic doors of the temple that day, Hell rose from beneath our feet and the earth gave way. I remember falling for what seemed like many years And landing before hells gated iron tiers. Satan led the way and bowed deeply towards the guards Who opened the gates though they had no arms. And every thing we passed, every soul who seemed lost, Was missing something obvious, and wore a rotted cross. Across roads paved with bones and rivers made of blood, Satan revealed to me what hell truly was. Once I met a woman who looked me in the eye, Whispering she cautioned, “turn back now, or you’ll never die.” And when we finally came upon the steps, the steps of Blackened Hearts, Satan threw up his arms and cried, “Heaven, here we are!” © 2012 astoundinglyattractiveAuthor's Note
