July 4A Poem by D Alan JohnstoneA song for my kidsThe 4th of July, my back to the sky. Flowers of fire reflect in the glass of their eyes. As they glance upward with smiles and shudders, percussion quakes and the earth stutters under foot. Imagined fissures take them and swallow them whole. In glorious flashes of color and light, their eyes glow. They are happy, and I am happy to know them ...to watch the reflection in the glass of their eyes. To watch them grow, and to call them my own. © 2017 D Alan JohnstoneReviews
