Make Hartford Listen: A Call To RallyA Poem by Matt BOnce upon a time, this state was a national leader in business, education, and quality of life. We had plenty of money, and life was good. Then, things changed for the worse. Look around you, fellow Nutmeggers. Once vibrant areas of Connecticut are now morbid, and quiet. Businesses like General Electric are moving to other states, or closing up shop altogether. Parts of Bridgeport resemble Detroit's worst neighborhoods, and Stratford is a ghost town at night. And where once you had the freedom to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have authorities who say that it's their way, or the highway. How did things get so bad, and who's to blame? "Truth be told, if we're looking for the guilty, we need only look into a mirror". We, the citizens of Connecticut, have done this to ourselves. We have allowed ourselves to be overcome by the forces of fear, chaos, and lies. Politicians such as Dan Malloy and Ned Lamont have exploited that fear. They have obtained the silence of the people through outright lies, and empty promises that have gone unfulfilled. We have one month before the new governor is sworn in; one month to do something. There are those who accept the disaster that is today's Connecticut. To them, I say, "crouch down and bite the hand that feeds you". Then, there are those who are ready for change, and prepared to make a difference. As the song goes, "which side are you on"? "If you've seen nothing...I would suggest that you allow (this December) to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me"...at the end of this month (date to be decided) in Hartford. It's time for the "silent majority" to be silent no longer. Let's raise our voices, and "make Hartford listen"! (Parts of this writing (in italics) were adapted from "the revolutionary speech" in "V For Vendetta")
