There Was A Moment

There Was A Moment

A Story by Faint

i could hear the purr of a bike behind me

but i didn't bother looking

as he drove around the curve, as i walked into the curve

there was a moment when we both realized the other was there

we could have had a head on colission but he had his ways of preventing that

instead i jumped and looked up in surprise

as he drove past me

i looked and so did he

there was a moment when i could see through his helmet

and when he could see through my startlement

there was a moment

and then it was gone with the sound of a car horn and the slamming of breaks

i screamed and ran to see

but all i saw was a pissed off driver

and the red tail lights of his bike

his arms braced on the handle bars and his head hung bowed, he stood there

his legs supporting his bike

i ran to his side and as i was about to say something he looked up at me

i had never seen someone look at me that way before

at first with adrenaline clouded eyes

and then with a sly, friendly smile

he slipped me a helmet, unbraced his arms, and lifted his head

at first i could only stare at the helmet, Did he want me to put it on him?

i looked up with questioning eyes

For you.

But you need a helmet too.

Not as much as you do. If youre riding, youre wearing it.

But...

Do you want to come or not?

again i looked down at the helmet still in my hands, i slipped it over my head

he smiled

i wrapped my legs around his bike and held onto him

and there was a moment
