Dead Hand of the PastA Poem by AnonymousA five verse poem with a rhyme scheme of ABAB.
I look back and see my twisted road,
A reminder of my horrible past now left behind. It seems that some stories are better left untold, But what I did to you is burned into my mind. A wicked dark past haunted by my inner demon, I can struggle to forget it but there's no point, Because my guilt is always clawing from within, And that weakens my body and mind which are no longer joint. I would trade everything I ever owned, You know I'd give you my life if you wanted that. The way I left your life cut and postponed, Well it's caused me to fail and fall flat. I never meant to betray you to save myself, But my mind was clouded by poor judgement. Now you rolled with the cards I dealt and damned yourself, To save me from a little bit of torment. Enjoy your time wherever it may be, Because where you have gone I cannot follow. I loved you so blatantly that any idiot can now see, That I miss you more than you can imagine and I damned myself to a life of sorrow. ~A © 2014 AnonymousAuthor's Note
