Why?

Why?

A Poem by Jazzlyn B Barden

Why didn’t you love me,

Like you did yesterday?

When we kissed, and held hands,

And Danced in the rain.

When we laughed,

And cried,

And talked,

Until all the pain would go away.

Why don’t you love me,

Like  you did yesterday?

When you promised me a forever,

And made me feel sane.

Why can’t you love me,

Like you did yesterday?

You walked out the door,

As tears streamed down my face.

Looking into your eyes,

I thought I saw an angel in disguise,

But in all reality,

You were just a demon telling lies.

Which is why you couldn’t love me,

And why you said goodbye.

Why’d you say you love me?

Just yesterday?

I knew you weren’t capable,

But I loved you anyways.

Love lost & betrayal can bring out some of the strongest human emotions. Well done. Very honest and heartfelt.

This describes something universal that happens to all of us, yet it's told in a very fresh & original-sounding way. You've done a great job of showing how ephemeral love can be. The last two lines really pack a bunch of meaning, as we ponder times we've also tried to love the unlovable. Great job.
