Cast Aways – or The cost of the Emerging Church

The minister had made an agreement with the house maid’s family, that his son would pay for the child until the age of sixteen years, provided the servant’s family moved away and the agreement and eve

"

He watched from the bowling lawn

His grandson play with friends

He longed to speak to him, nervous

he sauntered over to be near to the boy

and offered mints that his daughter

had loved as a child

 

He had travelled from early morning to reach

here midday, to watch the boy play. He had

planned it for some time  and now the day had

arrived. The boy demurred, refusing the proffered

bag as Mam had taught him, never from strangers

 

Half a century and a few more years later

The boy remembered the old man, his silky

sleek white hair, his beaming smile his smart

attire and his gentlemanly manner. And the

boy wondered who that man was

I am wondering who the man was ... or, have I missed something! Otherwise the poem is beautifully told.
