The walk

The walk

A Story by Francisco
"

An extraordinary finding.

"

I had gone for a walk. It was a beautiful autumn afternoon and German shepherd puppy followed, very cheerful and playful. When we reached a clearing, the dog stopped as if something or someone had put on guard. Moments later, a groan was heard and then a muffled cry.

My shock was tremendous when behind some bushes I found a baby wrapped in a shawl on a wicker basket. Thinking that maybe its mother was hiding nearby and watch the scene, I tucked her in my arms the baby and wandered around trying to find it.

At a time of the search, the dog stopped again and began barking hard looking in one direction. Nearby, on the floor, she lays a young half-naked woman. She seemed unconscious. I lay the baby down on the ground and tried to find a pulse on her wrist. She was dead.

After thirty years, that child is married and has two children who call me grandfather. I have never said that he is not my son.
