Cold RisesA Poem by KellyAfter attending a funeral for a fallen Marine in my husbands platoon.Cold Rises Stammering the maze like a drifting body with no soul in a graveyard at nightfall. I sit down and I see the blue satin lining the inside of the casket. Tears fall like raindrops on parades showering the worn faces of the family. Cold rises from the shivering bodies shaping the walls of the distressed church.
Marines rigid near the casket. Standing in formation, clad in uniform pay tribute to a fallen hero. Overhead Blue Angels roar in cloudless skies. His sapphire-like eyes are closed forever. Never again can he run tattered fingers over the flag for which he fought.
