A Fool's Gold

A Fool's Gold

A Fool's Gold
the glow of knotty pine
grows cold around me.

i've lost my mojo it seems

people look at me as if i were feeble
a child minded grey person

i wonder what race that is??
(one to the grave i suppose)

how cold               now   i am alone and
it's fingers and knees that are knotty

"That will be $10.50 sweety"             (she says with a smile)
and adds ... (twisting her lips just a twitch)

poor old soul.

I wish we treated our old people like the Native American. They were appreciated for their knowledge and wisdom. Powerful and needed words written. I hope you are doing well and staying safe.

We are told to embrace life, the longevity of years that are denied to so many. Both my parents and older sister died under the age of fifty, so I've got some living to do, in making them proud. How wonderful to find you on the boards today, my friend. I have missed you beyond words!

Great music choice, too. It's on my playlist on my phone. Love the words and music!

anyone who can make cold/me-mojo/seems work is a fine poet as far as I’m concerned

I am at that age where I sing "Old man take a look at my life, I'm a lot like you."
I see some older folks who are going through dementia, parkinsons etc. and I think I am looking in the mirror ten years down the road.
a very moving poem here, E.

Your writing disagrees with her Sir Noodle. Who is the poor soul? The person who lives and fills their life to a ripe old age or the hip, cool youth, who will one unseen day know they are no longer hip, cool or youthful.
I think that day for me was when I stopped thinking "does it suit me" and started thinking "if it fits me, I'm done shopping!"
They can keep their pretend cool while sitting in a coffee shop deliberately ignoring everyone while hoping someone notices them. And at the price of coffee these days, they'll decide to just pretend even more by making it at home without their pretend and hopeful audiences.
But I do sympathise. There is nothing worse to those poor old soul looks, especially when you see the person isn't that far behind you on life's path.
Justkeep that pen handy for when inspiration strikes.

I used to work in a chronic disease hospital. Many of the patients were like this. Old age ain't for sissies.

Einstein Noodle,
I'm too old to enjoy these kinds of reminders...
