"Weeping Woman" by Pablo Picasso, 1937
Outpouring
crossing my intention with remiss a
damp chill seeks out the marrow .....
bone words

lavender, beige,            mint and
Lebanon cedar
sea salts and
frankincense.

things of Egypt                    things of tombs

like cinder blocked, bare knuckled ......buckled and strapped
scratching behind walls

time swallows hard to keep it down
our eye lashes flutter and ripple the oceans

our skin lays chard in clumps across the floor
flight paths of attempted escapes
crisscrossed contrails of bloody pulp
orange peeled entrails,
agent orange burnt eyes

smells never forgotten
always unspoken.

this weeping
this outpouring

These tears especailly from the "weeping women" must touch the heart and soul of people living in safe countries like my own, and the depth of the semi- abstract images you paint with words has to be felt as well as seen.
Those who survive damaged for life with invisible scars ,and as always i think of the children in war ... :((

As human beings we continually say that the horror of wars must never be repeated again in the history of the world, but who listens? Who cares? War continue to continue and I believe they will for as long as human beings exist, in spite of the horror, the deaths, the killings, those who are spared but live with horrific injuries for the rest of their lives.
I like that the poet goes back in history before coming forward to present day horrors. A very poignant, emotionally moving write, superbly inked and expressed. I like the addition of Picasso's "Weeping Woman". Only women's hearts bleed! Thank you for writing and thank you for sharing, E...

Few people abhor war more than a soldier particularly one that has seen battle typically the "Hawks" are the ones that never tipped their toes in a pool of blood... nor stood in service politicians and the like:/ it is interesting how you started with the images of ancient tombs and the similarities of more contemporary graves how they would speak a similar language despite being centuries apart:( Will we ever learn? and the answer in my opinion is maybe if WE only learn to listen to their language! this is an impressive bit of writing Mr. Einstein sir

I sense that even the long ago embalmed bodies of the high and mighty of their time who lie within great pyamids no longer rest easy, their souls/spirits in torment at the present atrocities being carried out all around their homelands and futher afield, I sense the ansgt and heartache throughout this wonderfully moving, emotive poetic E. Kudos and may your pen continue to flow ink across parchment and likewise will humans ever truly lay down their arms to stop this terrible violence, yes, 'Picasso's weeping woman' and many other here now and before pray for peace throuhout!!

Fascinating piece! I was just Googling Egpyt and then I stumbled upon this. Images so vivid, even disturbingly so, but words are meant to do that, right?

doing well ... Beau and I just watch the now roll on ;) best of health to ya!
this leaves the bitter aftertaste of combat clinging to the inside of one's throat that only those who have been there and who are familiar with it will recognise as a mixture of abject fear and adrenaline .. I have never personally encountered agent orange, or napalm but did two tours of duty whilst serving with the Royal Air Force and feel suitably qualified to make such a judgement .. such was the intensity of feeling you conveyed .. sadly enjoyed by me & I likewise salute you sir E .. ~ Dear E, these are such a breathtaking lines. This poem felt so vivid and almost guttural in its sadness, the despair and distress of things, colours and sensations, past. The concluding line is just heartbreaking. This was an intense read.

Sending you a hug. Much love. ❤️
