Tar Baby
Sadness came slowly like
the turning of leaves in Fall breezes
the colors
impregnable with the mind

only hearts

discern
red bursts     -       the
yellow ripe lemons,
ethereal rusts,
pinion green cones
bleeding red oak and dogwood Easter blossoms

cut and split for fuel

we can know love

I went after it once
down new avenues    -     lain
in hot macadam
I looked away
I'm not sure what you did
as I watched
black asphalt poured over
old bones and memories

Exquisite E., and so moving. Flow, words ‘al punto’, Imagery, colors, pathos, simile - all perfect. I could not help but follow this spiritual journey from alpha to inevitable omega. All of the colred bursts of love are what define and elevate us. Kudos my supremely sensitive friend…

I felt the sadness of autumn here. My least favourite season despite the glory of colour it does not lift the spirit. My feet got stuck in the hot tar. I couldn't get out. The stickiness of the situation.

I looked away
I'm not sure what you did

Some things are best left under the tar macadam. Love is strange.

Thoughtful write here tinged all the way through with sadness. Great read Mr E. So good to see a post from you and one that pulls on the emotions.

And to you too my friend. Have a good week:)
The ending was sad but the whole poem was so wonderfully explained and expressed. I really like the detail and the feeling their vibe evoked. Sade has such a beautiful voice! tyfs

... I looked away, not sure what you did...
Stellar line.
Makes me think of my in-laws house that the Highway Department took.
After a lifetime of living there the whole neighborhood was bulldozed down for progress.

"I looked away
I'm not sure what you did" --- These lines are so right there, so perfect for this poem. And the poem presented some images not normally seen. But I suspect you planned that all the while. :) --- Thanks for this fun and curious read!

Vivid images and the last few lines grabbed me as a metaphor of how the memory of an attempt at love was preserved under a layer of what conducts us to new places or where we may just park. Very nice.

Sad and f Tar poured over is a remakable metaphor for depression and the sadness of old memories. And the pulll of that tar to release is equally strong for the effort both physical and moreso mental it takes to come away from such.
Whether about specific instances or not this is a finely crafted piece from an author at the top of his game..

At times it can feel like hot tar is poured over us...like we can not move and we are stuck. However, we can always find a way out of that tar....a friend can help pull us out. Old memories and old bones....I have plenty of both. Love the sound of Sade....bluesy and just perfect to accompany your words. Always great to see a poem from you, E. Lydi**

Whoa! A new poem! I once knew love of your poetry and can now find it again. I was starting to think you got paved over. What a relief! And from the black sticky stink comes colorful words in your ink. I don't have any more time today so you'll have to impregnate my mind later. What a pleasant surprise to see you writing!
