I was drawn to the title. Oh, how we avoid death at all costs, especially talking about it.
Death in Western countries is just taboo. Actually, I think we would rather say people expired.
I think it is brave to talk about it, maybe make the journey more bearable at the end.
Tough poem this one, a thought for the day.

I think you are absolutely right .. we should talk about it along with every other important subject .. it is as natural as birth eh!? i think its the perceived unknown and expectation of loss as well as our own mortality that makes it difficult. With Faith our goal is reset beyond the grave .. we strive to live for others and do all we can to conform to the wondrous "Golden Rule" .. or we go destructive .. harming ourselves and others to one degree or another. With just that mustard seed of Faith we know well the confidence of 1Corinthians 15:55 "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?...." it goes on to say that the "sting" is caused by our sin .. our misunderstanding of what is really free and what isn't ... anyway ;) ... i really appreciate your review ... that it gave you pause .. to think and consider is more than i could hope for in a poem ... be well my friend and stay safe ...

I often wonder if death is ever remorseful in the ending of a shining spirit one that glows and bristles with the joy of life in spite of all the wretched cast upon them. I wonder if death ever has regret in its work? Do you think a poem that perseveres long after its author is like a dagger in death's mandate? LOL well I think it might just be a band-aid for them both brother poet

But alive I am only in training for the young funeral director to get in his OJT by stitching my cold lips closed or applying makeup to where my hair line is no longer human. /But if I live and there is a tree near, I promise to hug it. to dig my toe-nails deep into it's bark and twist open a sore to let the gasses out. I see this in two terms, an ending of a relationship where she decided the end with no way back and You stand there helplessly with nothing You could do at all as she is stonger, the one with control, You see her tearing, and You see everything You two had shared of memories tearing and falling away. and I see also this as someone who is a very strong soul, she walked life's hard trails without uttering, carrying the weights with patience. and even at death, she is fearless while passing... welcoming it with accpetence and no need for anyone to be next to her as her colors and tastes fade away, You only watch, absorb... think ponder... and You surely made me ponder and think in this profound one dear E, specially with your opening "the lure was educational" this sentence speaks a lot in more than one way.

is it that death was luring in an organized way for her? I can't but think of the new generation and how the media (music, movies, etc...) lure them into death and present suicide like a pleasant thing. or is it that there is luring in education and you wanted that but she wasn't open for it or for any explanations or discussions? lol if I am sounding too much, I didn't mean it that way :) always Luv Ya💕

Death. Each of us will know a different place. Hello my friend. I sat with five people dying and each time. Death was kind to them. Took them away slowly and painless. I liked the honest thoughts in the words. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

I think its more about social distancing and good hand washing than anything else.
We all hope that death can be so gentle & innocuous like a kitty creeping up on us. If death were universally so, maybe many would not fear & dread it as people often do. I believe that meeting one's end with the kind of calm your poem delivers must be a function of feeling fulfilled with the course of one's life (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margei

This is so careful and gentle and so much there in that moment. where we all wish we wern't and only one of us has the grace to handle it. This is quite frankly stunning my friend in its honesty, in its beauty and in its simple fear from one who is left without.
