Blind Mole

A Poem by Einstein Noodle

Nature Picture Library Naked mole rats (Heterocephalus glaber), digging using teeth, captive. - Visuals Unlimited

Blind Mole
there are cracks in every
window and door              floors             roofs and
tunnels
burrowing time; smooths mud silky
along the halls
like the blinking ability of sight
an entitlement attitude
we are weary
bombs flare rosettes and sunflowers
effervescence of ginger poured recklessly
spilling bubbles of opinion
hawking hucksters

Easier to fall into
the brackish dirge and
scarlet letter moaning
than rise

like blind naked moles
scratching sidewalls slick with ease and petulance

climbing out, into the sunlight
                    will                      burn
even
the senses of moles

Relating enlightenment and entitlements how we take sight our crucial sense we think to ourselves for granted. Never know how important something is until taken away in some freak accident. The apreciation of the Moles life is brilliant. The empathy for this delicate creature yet a nuisance species. My Dad is a superintendent of the golf course and hates these things. I heard once " When a poet digs himself into a hole, he doesn't climb out. He digs deeper, enjoys the scenery, and comes out the other side enlightened.” You did that here beautifully and well penned. I loved the line " like blind naked moles
scratching sidewalls slick with ease and petulance
climbing out, the
sunlight will burn
even the sensing of moles." Fun fact Moles aren't completely blind. Their very small eyes are covered in fur and are hard to locate. They use a specialized scent sensor on the tip of their nose to locate their prey. Keep writing I've certainly enjoyed it. Sincerely your friend in writing and life

This is a great allegory for how most of us feel... our hearts are buried underground like the mole, but someday we emerge on the other side with sunlight and joy in our lives...that would be a gift of great magnitude! I loved this poem, really thoughtful and well written.

This could be wartime, burying ourselves away hoping for the best.
They do say the blind can see, but sometimes the sighted person is totally blind to what is around them.
The human is the perfect specimen, we have everything going for us, sadly technology has taken a lot of the senses we take for granted away from us. Probably why people drive into rivers.

I've not met anyone who is rushing out to get it.
I perceive this writing as all humans have ability to sense what is going around in their environment and among them some have sensing ability like moles partial blindness make them hard to comprehend actual situations and deep rooted true facts, along with that fragility, bright sunlight which means very strong brain washing type of influences make those weak sensors even harder to understand things the way are presented. This writing throws some light how in general we all perceive things and what are the challenges in getting the true knowledge and understanding about world. Lack of knowledge, ignorance, lack of role models, illiteracy, lack of support system unwillingness to learn, propaganda, wrong unethical advertisements, commercials, messages etc are common challenges which hinders our perception. This writing is really thought provoking and metaphoe did real justice to the message

Beware of what is lurking beneath the soil, the very feet while we all fix our eyes on something else is what I get from this interesting and deep meaningful poem. The world thinks nuclear weapons will destroy the world but in the covid cases, they are rethinking invisible enemies. I don't know much about moles dear Einstein but I believe all things created play a vital role in nature and their relationships to man whether good or bad. I like your political references and God help you if you ever run for political office! You will bear the brunt of people's mood swings, convictions and range of emotions. Excellent work sir. Peace, love and poetry...

Gene... I suddenly realize that we as a Country could gather up the moles and use them to stir up the soil where needed in an organized manner... instead of letting them be destructive at random. They seem to be a different species from rats altogether. Just trying to be positive .

What a pathetic and ugly looking little creature is the poor mole in your posted image Mr E. Yet, I can't help feeling sorry for it in its blind world. I also know for a fact what incredible damage they can inflict. I saw once a beautiful landscaped garden, where the moles had been out at play during the night. Left the green and manicured grass ridden with dirt piles. Persistent too. I am reminded how we take our sight for granted and don't appreciate what we have until we are in danger of losing it. However we can adapt and learn to live differently as does the little mole in his underground world. Your lines are multi layered, metaphorical sensory and there is so much to ponder on in this write. Always a delight to find a new poem from your wonderful pen. Top of the morning to ya, a bit early but sent anyway from across the pond. Have a great day.

This is a very sensory poem given its subject matter. Almost visual in its rich imagery. And let us not forget the layered metaphors here.

Blind moles....perhaps political groups that follow blindly to the ends of the earth? Hmm....many layers to peel in this one, E. Do we pursue opportunities for individual growth or do we run with the masses....never sure exactly where we are going, but hoping to be given all we want. This one is certainly thought provoking, my friend. I liked it, though I have to say the image gave this city girl the creeps! Lydi**
