Blind Mole

A Poem by Einstein Noodle

Nature Picture Library Naked mole rats (Heterocephalus glaber), digging using teeth, captive. - Visuals Unlimited

Blind Mole
there are cracks in every
window and door              floors             roofs and
tunnels
burrowing time; smooths mud silky
along the halls
like the blinking ability of sight
an entitlement attitude
we are weary
bombs flare rosettes and sunflowers
effervescence of ginger poured recklessly
spilling bubbles of opinion
hawking hucksters

Easier to fall into
the brackish dirge and
scarlet letter moaning
than rise

like blind naked moles
scratching sidewalls slick with ease and petulance

climbing out, into the sunlight
                    will                      burn
even
the senses of moles

Relating enlightenment and entitlements how we take sight our crucial sense we think to ourselves for granted. Never know how important something is until taken away in some freak accident. The apreciation of the Moles life is brilliant. The empathy for this delicate creature yet a nuisance species. My Dad is a superintendent of the golf course and hates these things. I heard once " When a poet digs himself into a hole, he doesn't climb out. He digs deeper, enjoys the scenery, and comes out the other side enlightened.” You did that here beautifully and well penned. I loved the line " like blind naked moles
scratching sidewalls slick with ease and petulance
climbing out, the
sunlight will burn
even the sensing of moles." Fun fact Moles aren't completely blind. Their very small eyes are covered in fur and are hard to locate. They use a specialized scent sensor on the tip of their nose to locate their prey. Keep writing I've certainly enjoyed it. Sincerely your friend in writing and life

What a splendid piece of writing to visit this morning! I maybe could have lived without the illustration. (laughing) They are truly repulsive looking creatures but, being blind and underground, I don't suppose they care. I'm a bit underground myself but I try to keep my eyes open. I'm glad my eyes were open to read this fine bit of poetry this morning; fabulously worded, I enjoyed the entirety.

Ha! what a thought Mr. E! I really wonder how your mind find these thoughts and turn them into brilliant words like this. how many blind moles are there in this world? dwelling in ignorance or fear, instead of building their tunnels up, they build it in the same direction, nothing to add nothing to change and no well to explore and learn.

I find it fitting that your poem was written shortly after the 2020 election in the USA, becuz we're still crawling around in dim tunnels, barely being able to see or distinguish what the hell is going on beyond the cracks & crumbles of our beloved habitats *smile* Even tho we are on opposite sides of some things, Gene, I suspect we might agree that there's a whole bunch of stark raving blindness that's keeping our country from moving onward & healing or making progress (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

The beginning of this made me giggle on the inside. I remember when I was little and found out about naked mole rats. I thought it was the funniest thing ever, but you turned this into something brilliant.

You're welcome!
O h my what a hideous
looking thing the mole
is..is this what we've
become tethered to
a chain like existence
hidden in darkness

I think we feel like
the mole looks, yet the
dreadful feeling within
our very core being
is so.much deeper
and we bend to the
ugliness which you
so aptly applied within
this allegory write
you made us see
the light or *not*
through the blind
mole the desperate
situation we all share

Superb piece here Mr. E

Right now I find myself burrowing through this dark hole feeling pandemic walls
closing in as I try to claw my way through the madness.
Maybe it would be better not to see...once out of the hole, maybe there will no longer be a sun.
And if I have darkness anyway...the clouds just won't matter.
But I'm digging anyway.

such a thoughtful piece of work...allegorical in nature and spot on with truth.

ah .. you have blessed me this morning jacob .. thank you .. and back at ya without doubt :)
Sometimes, just sometimes, we don’t come across too well when compared to much of anything else. I do wonder what Mr Mole and friends would think of our goings ons of murdering anything that doesn’t look or sound like us, tearing down their habitat for golf courses (yes, HIM) and generally being the number 2 pain in the a*s, just behind mosquitoes... and the mosquitoes have demanded a recount.
For all we have and what we do with it, they must think our main thing is to take rubbish from stores and move it to home, then bin, then dump... a most peculiar race indeed.
And here’s wee Moley, dogging the foundations, designing and furnishing, with not a single YouTube how to do tutorial in sight.
I wonder if they have a poetry site full of poems about how hard it is to be a moe and the peskiness of humans 😀

A very interesting poem dear E. It brought to my mind our likeness to blind moles. We humans are sightless and so sensitive to light, especially that of truth. Weary and always prone to err. I enjoyed this poem and the picture so much!

Nicely written! I also like the song (the video was cool to watch as well). I like how you blended the blind mole-rat with your meaning and feelings about life (is what I got from this poem). I read it twice because I liked it and I'm sure I'll remember the song. tyfs
