Her contemporary footwork slid silk 

across steel grey flint

a hint ...........

she plie'd and squared her hips;

breeze, sway stepping in line

with sublime electric quick draw and

John Wayne swag

He backs up ....

bows his head 

tips his hat and

smiling wide sky charm   -   speaking

milk tongued draaaaaaaaawl .........

says:

"I only line dance ma'am! ....................."

dear Gene... I met Roger at "Bronco Billy's" in 1987 with a
Band that arrived at seven pm every night.
I had my eyes on a Cowboy at the end of the Bar.
I asked him to dance, and he said, "Not unless they play
"Because of you, God made Oklahoma". I returned to my
Table, thought for awhile, and then asked the Band to
play that song. I have kept him in Cowboy Boots to this day.
He has kept me "In line" ever since. I think your poem is
very whimsical. truly, Pat

dear E... At the time I worked as a Secretary in a Patent and Trademark Law Firm in Washington, D.C. My boss had his birthday party at Bronco Billy's on the corner of 19th and L Street close to the building where we worked at the PTO Law Office. Roz and I decided to ask the two cute guys at the Bar to dance.
I just bought Roger a new pair of Tecovas black leather Cowboy Boots. Love the Country song, "You're the reason God made Oklahoma" and I'm still missing you... a Calico Cat and a two room flat... by David Frizzell and Shelly West. truly, Pat bless you...

the captcha is a scramble of letters required to copy to submit your work... sometimes the letters are actual words and are strangely relevant to what is posted .. in this case the captcha was "mating" .. i thought it was crazy weird given the poem ;) could be the slide ... ;) funny how this one brings such memories ... even those who never line danced can place it somewhere in their experience .. it surprised me .. it seems to have struck a chord ... i am so glad you are back and posting and reviewing MissE. ... best of the day to ya!

I confess I have never line danced even though I’m from the land of country music. I guess I’d end up being his opposite and turning him down if he shuffled up to ask me. So, I shouldn’t judge.

this poem is beautifuly chaotic; I imagined the scene as I was reading it. I always believe that dancers tame the negative energy and transform it into dance moves.... I love music and i love dancing and I love your poem... "blaame it on the Boogie"!!! lol

Cute! There is beauty and precision in one and earth and home in the other. Urban Cowboy is one of my favorite movies so I loved the insert of the John Travolta image. I think one portrays a dream, while the other portrays life; and we all need a dream in life. Well penned.

in my past life I was in a square and round dance club.. I never learned to line dance.. and I never experienced a lack of cowboy partners.. it is one of the things I miss.. there are no clubs where I live now.. I love your poem.. it brought back fond memories.. the cowboy's I know are certainly not one trick ponies..

ahahaha i am so glad to see you stopping by olla...and could not be more gratified this brought memories to you ... yes! line dancing for the first timer especially can be pretty awkward feeling .. seems everyone else knows exactly what to do .. but we don't ;))) but when I have tried my feet at it .. i never felt i was being laughed at or dismissed .. on the contrary ..people all around were more than willing to offer their help ... love on ya olla!! maybe you can find a few like minded people and host a ho-down in the fields there :)

any dance for the first time feels awkward.. from our first baby steps in the dance of life to the to the jete' and the grand plie'.. I don't do bars any more and that is where most people learn line dancing.. I thought about it though.. every other dance form eventually needs a consistent partner.. the one thing I never did find.. no toe shoes for me.. sigh..

if you get the chance to attend a céilí i would encourage you to go ... i have been to a few and they were not held in a bar .. too many people ;) all ages from young to old ... no partner necessary ... they maybe can be called Irish square dancing ... only not square ... more like snaking lines with Irish dance steps that somehow bring you back to where you started ... i had a ball ... ;) tho having someone to go with is a big plus ... love your analogy of dance and life and awkwardness .. to true :)

thank you.. I rarely turn down an opportunity to learn a few more steps.. it's usually other considerations that prevent me.. I have watched Irish Folk Dancing and would be happy for a chance to learn.. while I am not Irish I am from some Scottish stock and they are not far from each other.. the rhythms are like an aphrodisiac to my soul..
