This is a remarkable tiny droplet of an idea that paints a huge portrait in my mind . . . how the icy mountaintops cause granite outcrops to flake off like onion . . . swirling with the idea of how layers of an onion being hardened into rigor-mortis could resemble a poet with writer's block trying to chisel off a few lonely words (is that what you're doing here? *wink! wink!*) Love it! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

and the poet will keep digging and digging in the "rocks" continue carving his "shapes" of poetry until his bones run old and crack... yes that's how poetry can be in life, the very essence of everything about us, or what made us, even our bones, bled into words, and that's how I read Your words Creative Poet Mr.E :)

Yes we do, and You are SO very welcome E :)
Nothing more eye catching than the flashing of a neon light.
That is the image that springs to mind when I read power packed pieces like this.
You're clever coupling really works.

So few words yet holding a lot of meaning. You are quite the artist, E. Layers of the onion...layers of thought...your words hold many layers of connotation for sure. Lydi**

Indeed we are...and that is what counts!
To me, the 3 lines speak of the 3 different approaches to writing. The first is when you've been blessed by the kindly muse, and one by one the layers of the onion are stripped off with fervour, as you watch the poem emerge from underneath, like a neatly tucked-in infant. Such instances are rare for me, but those rare times are pure bliss. And the poems that i write in such a trance seldom undergo much editing.
The 2nd line could talk of the poems where you really put in the effort, neatly editing and re-editing thousands of manuscripts to chip at the hard granite, and watch your masterpiece take shape slowly.
And alas the third😂... the infamous writer's block, describing writing as a slobbering and slow process, like a tedious mechanical workout, and the writer's block is the rigor mortis you have to overcome to get your arms to function.

Chiseling, chiseling- ouch!! Writing is like peeling onions- great on-point metaphors E.! Well, back to chiseling before the rigor takes me- ha! Love this Senryu.

The hardening of humanity and a stony heart. Needing a chisel to break into it's unaffected, unfeeling heart. So they might as well be dead.

i know...it a rather bleak ditty isn't it ... but at least we do have our layers eh!?
E.
I suppose if we chisel to the core we discover mankind.
That's definitely when rigor mortis sets in.
But we can't change it now.
Though, the Planet of the apes did a good job.
