Moon Shots

Did I hear howling on the midnight breeze

your refrains harmonize with spirits almighty

a lithe arabesque backlit naked ebony trees

when Granny Moon donned her ruby nightie

swoops to the earth kissing grey tree tops 

spotlight of moon shards chasing their shadows

she gracefully crosses the street east to west .................... then stops.

Waiting to fill love's hearts bleeding fallow

A fond caress harvested from fingertips
your touch gliding beside her nightly glow
kinship undimmed by a fleeting eclipse
before her ocean plunge she lets it go.

too soon is gone the glorious sight

as mountain and tree tops reach up to hide

the fairest of moon's rare earthly delight

super and blue and blood together abide 

now i in repose and she without nightie

slip down deep sleep as daybreak begins

tucking earthen warm leaves round each tightly

kissing and kissing the cheeks of her grins.

What a stunningly lovely poem on the Moon’s ebb and flow through the night and it’s glowing effect on countless bleeding hearts, dear E. The mistress of earthly tides, in love and loss, she abides. And we, who thirst evermore for her beauty, yearn for the night everlastingly.

Very endearing personification of the Moon in this poem. The tucking of the earthen warm leaves felt so cozy and delightful!

i think the moon intoxicates all poets ;) it was a treat to work with Barley Girl on this one ...i feel fortunate she agreed to it ... that month was pretty spectacular for moon watchers .. super moon, blue moon and blood moon ... doesn't often happen in the same month like that .. i am so grateful the poem moved you Kat ... thank you so much for reviewing and pointing out lines that particularly drew you ... its how we learn i think ... love and peace to you! and thanks again for the gracious review

I do remember the time of the blood moon! I was well and truly intrigued by the event! I climbed a tall spire and stayed up with my binoculars all night! It helped that I was in an great, grand English city with such lovely steeples & spires! Your words brought me enchanting memories. Thank you E!

Well, one of you already used the word gorgeous, but that is my choice too, to describe the smooth, velvety flow of your words. It's impossible to see the lines were one of you starts and the other follows, but I guess that is the sign of a great collaboration. I love the twinkle you have both given your words. I remember back when we did this . . . 2018 was young & I was so sure this would be a great year becuz it's the year of the dog & also it started out with two blue moons back to back. Well, here we are, much further along, & this year really did turn out to be the best year I've had in over a decade (since my physical issues began). Beautiful I can just see how the moon slowly moving to give way for the dawn- he loved the sun he died for her every night so she could shine- beauty of nature and allowing all things to have their place in time - can see the illumination all around as the moon lights up the night and awakens the sleepless souls - only to leave us breathless longing for more- wonderful words 🌹
