"Avenues from far and wide
 swept minds of every station; 
with tongue and pen put past aside 
birthing our New Nation.
A Bride she is blushing and flushed
her dowry, countless lives;
her suitors' sabers came and rushed
to keep and own this prize.

Those men who framed this land
were thoughtful in their task;
so now, what monarchs might demand,
we people need but ask.
And all those many voices,
their mingled story spun,
give rise to many choices 
as many stand as one.

Her bones and teeth with jagged edge
she falters through the years.
To speak, defend, under the Pledge
nearing beyond worste fears.
the ebb and flow of malice, a sylph,
relentlessly rending to tears ....
corrupt the youth, drag down in filth
hold leaders up to scornful jeers

It seems we're so divided
by tugs from right and left,
that all that gets decided
leaves half of us bereft.
And so the nation festers,
the loudest voices, lies,
that draw hearts to those jesters
who dance as justice dies.

You have perfectly reflected the current political climate in not just America, but it seems to be a worldwide phenomena. It seems no one is concerned with even so much as appearances anymore. Leaders are cut throat, indeed. Sad reality and it seems we are slipping back into monarchy mentality as all fight for the prize, at the cost of how many? Excellent poem, hating the truth of this one. Cheers!

yes! cut-throat indeed ... no holds barred ... outright lying and mixing suppositions with accusations and insinuations of truth ..and actually selling it ...people clinging on to convictions with false premise ... no proofs .. i quite watchin news ..except fo local weather and and live coverage of house and senate hearings and speeches ... even then i can only stand a few minutes ... all the crap we hear in the press is embelished and re-iterated in the House and Senate ... poor poor form ..:( thanks for taking time Karen .. i sure appreciate your review .. didn't mean to soap box you ;) love and peace!

A very nice collaboration we have here Mr E. I have yet to meet mattavelli. You have a divided nation, but if you look at what is happening across the pond we also have the same. We are very divided at the moment, more so than for a long time. Yes, the tug of war between right and left and the lack of respect shown between politicians is pretty dismal. The language used is ferocious at times, diplomacy appears to be a word no one understands any more. What a state of affairs. Solution? Now I'd be a wealthy woman if I could work that one out. Good day to you.

ahahaha a wonderful parody my friend .. as you read below, however, i like our President for what he is doing .. booming economy, more jobs (lowest jobless rate among women, and people of color in decades ... higher wages because we now have more jobs than workforce .. stocks mostly up and higher than ever .. and i lock my door because i want to control who enters or not .. we must have secure borders to remain a country .. but... that being said .. Mattevelli and I (as i shared with Neville) are left and right .. we decided to try and express that in a poem about our wonderful country without the rage and hate being thrown about ... and i think we did accomplish that .. it can be done eh?! i like to watch the English Parliament debate .. it is rowdy, humorous and at times heated ... but always with a sense of respect and not taking one's self too seriously .. in contrast our hearings and debating are boring, and many times filled with the same vitriolic attacks we read about in the press constantly ... but at least watching them i get it straight from all the asses mouths eh!? :)))))))))))) really appreciate your time taken angel .. and i respect you point of view completely .. glad we are getting to know one another here at the wonderful Cafe" .. peace .. out! :)

compelling or restraining.. left or right.. tis mind blowing this so called politics game.. I would not mind so much if one or two believed what they themselves were saying.. sadly though, tis oft not the case methinks.. tis about power and greed and gaining both no matter what the cost.. Unfortunately, it is a universal problem.. every now and then tho, a decent one pops up.. thankfully.. must say, it does sadden me to see how divided your great nation is at present.. now that must be a worry... A super seamless collaboration and with a refreshing point running all the way through... N

good morning Neville! Mattevelli and I are from opposite ends politically ... we wanted to be able to write about it without discord .. disagreement yes ,,but no rancor and character assassinating ;) i'm so glad you found it to read and for taking time to write a review ..always important ...our 2 parties have so entrenched themselves in trench warfare .. all they can do is pop a bit of their heads up to peek because of all the constant shooting ... i have the same bleak impression ... its all about power, greed and avarice :(((( I voted for President Trump and will again .. he owes neither side and both are afraid of him because he is actually pursuing and accomplishing the things he said he wanted to do ...oh well .. i am an old man ... i leave the battle to the youth :))

you point out an important thing in all this .. the malice ...it doesn't care about the truth ..it is a stick that is being used to make those divisions wider and wider ... i am reminded just now of something from the Bible:
" 23 So Jesus called them together and began to speak to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, it cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, it cannot stand.…" Mark 3:23-25
it says can not stand...not might not stand ... not sure what voters can do ... maybe wake up and vote dividers on all sides out of office ...thanks for reviewing and for your encouraging opinions .. peace, love and flowers my friend!

YES ...i didn't agree with the Obama socialist global agenda but once elected i prayed he would be able to keep America safe and prosperous ..something all can agree is always important ..He failed miserably; but i never hated him nor attacked his person-hood nor his wife and families .. its policy that counts and the effects of those policies says i ;))

Good, hard working immigrants had build this great country and with many lives lost to keep the ideals alive from slipping into the abyss of the past. The politicians, right or left, can hijack all of that and cause many things. The people will and should protect the precepts of the constitution.

yes we should Sami ... could not agree more whole-heartedly .. those founding Fathers were brilliant and put together something so unique and provided for power to remain in the hands of local regions ...it truly frightens me to hear those who actually are trying to sell the idea that our Constitution and Bill of Rights is outdated .. the very foundations of a free and independent country ... ok...i'm done now ;} but we simply can't let the slipping away that is going on to continue ... thanks so much for reviewing Sami ... nice to see you face in the new avatar ;)

A very fine statement of facts set in extraordinary meter and flowing language! The way in which you've BOTH written is gentle yet logical and above everything, seems to me, diplomatically put. Perhaps you could give lessons to those that most definitely need some.

Our world seems to be turning in on itself, weatherwise and politically... the inevitable tides of change and charge... false claims with too little economy!

thank you so very much emma .. and mattavelli and i do not agree on politics and God in general so it was a challenge for us both to avoid the pitfalls of bully pulpiting one another ;) i must give the form credit to matt as it was one he thought would work well ... the common ground is blatant isn't it....the good of our country ...all our freedoms strengthened not belittled ...and in consequential differences be damned right?! ;))) love you comments... so happy you took time on this in reading and reviewing emma ..love and peace

Years ago, when in my teens.. our bay window was full of political info in advance of a serious election.. Handful of us watched someone come to the gate, obvisouly gaze at the rainbow of 'bumf' then walk away, bewildered. You see, our parents believed that respectful argument formed decisions.. that acceptance of parent's opinions ought be questioned/discussed rather than accpeted.. same applied to my older siblings, me being the youngest of seven!! So discussion SHOULD confirm beliefs - eventually if not immediately... Like the thought of you and mattavelli not agreeing - about politics and the Lord. Both topics can cause... sadness- biggg trouble, if respect goes out of the window. Tolerance at all times.. huh:! Sorry, i have the most awful fault, i write more than i speak. Gone!
