Dark Lights ...collaboration with Zahra

Dark Lights

Roses  - beauty entangled

with mortality

a promise of wrath and passion both

thorns project

 a reminiscence of woe 

holding on faithfully

to all the moments of rapture

piercing hands bleeding red

her jewelry are vines and moss

swaying in breezes moving 

where does evil come from?

her hips 

along the river's bending

surface waters rich skimmed with 

milk and midden

blurring the deep and powerful

meant to grab, hold and force into

darkness below the surface  

Fountains 

- her endless grace flowing,

taking away the spirits of soil and leaves

to a dream of rebirth

pools below gather beasts

choosing  frenzy but

one swims ....

family sinking deep in the bed load

 cobra hiss spitting

 bob weaving and

caught in the swaying

we ....

boughs of iron oak

bending breezes 

web snaring ...

catching 

holding

they could have been so calm, so serene---but then there was the Garden...the tree of knowledge---and the reality of life afterward...
life is thorns and passion, love and hate, sweet nectar and poison...all at once---
carefree left when God said "everybody out of the pool"
we all need to find the perfect fig leaf so we can cover just enough of ourselves to keep our dignity through life.

when i lived in Taos, NM (60s) we collected rose hips for tea all the time .. your reviews are always so fantastic ... poetry .. thanks always my friend .. for your time and thoughts .. in the key of G eh!? hmmmmmmm glad this hits the spot ... Zahra and i have worked on several poems together .. i sure miss her ... Dark Lights was a challenge for us ... the dichotomy of and need for both light and darkness was hard to hold ... and again, Pat, what a pure treat to have you going through these pages and reading ... thank you ever so much!!!

and how cool you found this ...as your last poem I read is of the lights and dark ;) the concept of seeing darkness and light in other ways is kind of eternal isn't it!? ... Zahra is certainly inspirational ...this was her idea ... we have worked on several poems together .. hmmmmmm she hasn't been around much as she is in college working hard i believe ... must check out her pages ... you are a fine friend Neville ... i appreciate you searching around for "stuff" of mine you haven't read ... i am ruminating my next post and hopefully it will be ready soon ... good on ya sir!

an interesting piece, the mystery of roses, or the mystery of women, at least this what I got from it too, it can be the symbol of divine beauty and it can turn into evil if You hurt her, ( make sure You don't bother Your woman Mr.E lol), the bright happy lights, turns into dark angry ones, the deep feminine touch is felt through Your poem, thank You both of You.

This is eloquently composed with attention to beauty and desire...beauty is a wonderful grace but desire is a thorn on every rose. If the mind, appreciating beauty, leaves it there for all to see...if it fills each thought with sharing and caring, the rose will remain. But the hand that reaches forth to pluck and own, to deprive and horde in jealous desire...will only be left with wounds from thorns and a flower that withers. That's what I took away from this. Lovely thoughts.
