I could have pictured it quite well, even without the image ;)) .... Interesting how you describe and pay more attention to the box, never giving any details about the contents. Proves how even mundane objects can serve as artistic fodder! Nicely penned!

An interesting piece using the theme of the Cremation Ashes Casket as a metaphor for life and its phases. The box indeed has character, charm and beauty. Nicely described.

"Well.... I get a leg Dad!" ;) he always has been the wise a*s in the bunch.

I was dating a lass a few years ago, she was a tad eccentric and her dad was still in the funeral parlour as she and her mother could not agree what to do with the ashes. I knew Sharon wanted them at home so I said to her to bring him home even though that gives me the willies (I was living with her). So we commissioned a special pot from a well known potter and when I tried to spoon him in discovered it was too small; so we asked the potter to make a larger pot and transferred him into that. Then I spent many an hour seeking his counsel as to the sanity of said daughter lol!

Warp-speed life time line first- and all encapsulated in a precious wooden box of memories. " oils and pheromones"- presiding over birth and death.Great form, flow- fast and slow cadence. Identity enclosed in a wooden (funereal?) box...profound and pondering write. Kudos!

First line longer than long.. zooming through life, through events, through love and.. and.. and.. then the ultimate.. good night all.
What a ride though - as is said. Your box, like your words, holds meanings we each have to identify.. hand-worn, heart-touched, protective, revealing.. and more.. and more.. if you've had a wisely unwise life! But if left unopened, never used. what then.. stagnant time.. static time.. i'm not sure of your intention but your words, the song.. Life in all its magicial whats and whys!

such mysteries can be found in a wooden box, hey? A subtle hint, for me, of the famous one of Pandora.....though no one would really be able to say whether it was made of wood....:P
I like the line "Sharp edges worn smooth" which is exactly how wooden furniture is - the marks of time actually add authenticity and enhances value....
Beautifully written :)
