The poem, the way you’ve written it, feels almost like a spell. It is a kind of magic to find something that could easily go unnoticed and bring it to life. And the way you’ve done it here- taking the three sticks and giving them the flight of the bird- feels kind of otherworldly.
I enjoy the repetition and simplicity of your wording. The syntax adds a somewhat haunting or dream-like note. The call of the creek and the ready ears of the dog becoming attuned to one another.
Animals (and nature at large) have many lessons available if we are open to hearing them. I love the way this poem shows that and also shows the state of being open to imagination and wonder. Wonder is something we never outgrow.
This is lovely work, E. I couldn’t help but see what Margie said about Bella having passed. I’m so sorry to read that. Her memory lives on in great works like this.

She shares what seems a simple stick but means much more to her. You acknowledged it's importance and created something so beautiful, like a symbol of the special bond you both share. Please keep writing and creating!

I suppose that's why dogs lead, and humans follow.
Dogs have remarkable abilities. From sensing cancer, to everyday tasks humans could never contemplate.

Animals are so intelligent
seems she sees beautiful in many
things as I do poetry is everywhere.
There is still life in the wood even
though it isn't growing somewhere
it's that energy she was just showing
you saying what can you do with
this daddy.
Like my experience yesterday
September 24 2017
before dinner
at 6pm I leaned over
too far near the sharp end of
the small table to plug in my
cell phone to charge,
And ended up bumping
the right side of my forehead
but no bleeding but
It really hurt I'm clumsy
like my mother,
But kit she's
a beautiful white German shepherd
and she wanted to lick my ouch spot
On my forehead all better
was so cute lol... thought I'd share
that experience with you I might
make it into a poem.
Thank you for sharing
This lovely jewel. Take care friend

What a splendidly rendered story poem, Gene! ✨
And, that beautiful bird is a masterpiece of creative art, straight from its finder's and crafter's creatively concerted effort.
I'd say you make an excellent team … too bad Bella cannot wield a pen, giving us her thoughts, too, but I doubt they'd be far different than your own amazingly entertaining, vividly entreating version.
One unique aspect of this piece is the manner in which you've formed your lines and verses, combining with the before and after pictures of those "Sticks" … I'd say Gene and Bella belong together.
I love it all, knowing, too, that wee original structure is worthy of its place in an art museum for all to enjoy, and what a lovely finish and presentation, My Friend.
Thank you for the wondrously unforgettable thrill! ⁓ Richard : )

ps i especially appreciate the specifics you point out about structure ..it helps a lot you know ;)
The concept of something "flying behind my eye" is super duper! Dogs see things a little differently than we do and of course poets see things differently to begin with. What a lovely write...filled with imagination and happiness just to be on a nature walk. Lydi**
