Skin Head Boots

Skin Head Boots

A Poem by Einstein Noodle

I love my boots;

so black ..........ten inch laced

 funny it is ..

I bought them at WalMart for
Forty-nine ninety five a

price i will afford

i love my boots
my skin head boots

When i lace them

farther up i
feel
the steel
in the toes
rise up

rise up to my brain

my

skin head brain

I think a lot with those toes

funny thing

how black they are.

Hello, Einstein! :)
Great write, it really got me thinking.
There are adults who haven't learned to work through their fears and frustrations. Instead, they live with those emotions, and strangely find them comforting. These people have trouble connecting with others and their relationships are always abusive. These people want to place blame and punish others because it is what they know. Their families and society failed to guide them to adulthood. They abuse because they want to be abused.
In a healthy society these people would be rarities, seen for what they are and cared for. They wouldn't be out finding like-minds and "nurturing" new generations.
Fabian mentioned in his review, "There is a crack in everything God has made." there are cracks in man made things as well. We've become fascinated by tv stories and new tech, so proud of our cars and homes, so stylized and branded and enthralled and rigid with anticipation that we've become the cracks in our society, our numb society. And, those are our children who will be lacing up their boots.
Look at their willfulness, what could have been greatness had a parent been understanding and nurturing instead of distracted or abusive, or had a neighbor or teacher cared. What precious minds have we ignored?

We will, as a society, learn to forgive and connect, and help these people; or we will keep spanking "children" for mismanaging their emotions; and feigning shock to match our facades of innocence.
Ourselves, our families, our society, our planet, these things matter most.

"Take a sad song & Make it better" say the Beatles, and Most of us hope that we can. There are the few however, the lunatic fringe, as you portray so well in your excellent poem, who are on an adrenaline-hatred high and are out to stomp and kill. "i feel the steel"- Can't buy a brain at Walmart...

All true good poet. You are welcome. ...::::))))
I suppose all the way through time, man has wanted an identity. Every generation forward has chosen some sort of uniform to define themselves.
I don't know why, but i think every race is inherently racist. It maybe just as simple as protecting their own race. Who knows.

There are some boots that have character to them that stands out. I contemplated buying lugs at one time but the feeling fell away.

Perhaps the strength of the boots with its steel toe is a side of you that seeks something similar to your aspirations. Reading the other reviews I see the skin-head impression may fall by the wayside so I'll disregard that and say....a fine poem.

I find it interesting how so many of your reviewers read a lot into your poem that just isn't there! You are not saying what this person is like at all. Why couldn't this be a statement of the simple satisfaction of being all duded out in our preferred ways, whatever that may be? It could be boots or high-heels -- both are equally weird to me! People who use their clothing to make a statement . . . but you are not saying what this statement is . . . each reader is bringing their own impressions & bias, I believe! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

Oh, that naughty word 'black'.
But he had a steel infected brain so I suppose he wasn't thinking straight. For the life of me, I will never understand what motivates people, any people, to blindly hate another lot of people. Sadly, it seems to happen the world over.( not just the 'skinheads!)

Hope springs eternal.
I think this will mean different things to different people. Condeming for some; accepting for perhaps the less enlightened. And of course so apropos after recent events. For myself I appreciate the irony that is here in spades. And it is the subtle implications that I find so well done.
That is to be racist is to miss the point of being human completely. Although I do take Gee's point about certain fashions. In your piece I see it as a good use of metaphor and as I said irony.

My older brother and his mates were all skinheads. They loved the Ben Sherman shirts, stay press strides, Doc Martens and Ska music. However they were no way rascist. The last line will strike a chord with many, perhaps the wrong one.
