Grammy

A Poem by Einstein Noodle
"

I have been having a bit of fun with Hollywoods awards .. this is the last ..and with much respect for Grannies ... the intent is on the Grammy Award

"
Grammy
sacerdotal women
slow rocking chairs
whistling reams of feels
twirl a fluttered heart
her black Puritanical bonnet
cupped to magnify sounds
to her ears
to her ears, she's so hard to hear
knitting and sitting and
rocking and whistling
everyone's Grammy so sweet
(memories forestall)
feigning this way then that
she rocks then rolls then
whistles some mo'
as year after year
her decision unfolds.

dear E... guess I am a North by Northwest gal.., The older classics... stars get older and pass away... but not in our memory. The public is the best judge, but like our politics... does not always work. It is exciting to watch the Grammy's ... getting our insight into their charm and vulnerability. Love your attitude and writing. truly, Pat

I've never watched the grammies, so I can't comment on that aspect of your imaginative message. All I can say is that it's the height of originality, in my humble opinion, to write this up as if mistaking it for granny, particularly since you begin with ear-cupping to indicate things are likely to be heard wrongly. I've never had a cell phone, never watched any Star Wars or similar blockbusters in that genre. I mean, I'm so disconnected from pop culture, it's amazing I even understood what you were going for, here! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This year there was over 80 award categories, but the only award my grammy (granny) ever took notice of is when my big sis told her she would be becoming a great gran and i piped up that she already was.
I was impressed with my award too, aproper grown up box of chocolates.
Your words here E remind me of her, the rocking chair, gently swaying to her own internal soundtrack, most likely John Denver or Kenny Rogers, in between bouts of telling us tales of a long lost youth and leaving you gobsmacked she was a real person before being gran. A bit like finding out your mum wasn't just waiting for you to be born and that she was a real person too.
They do keep rocking and rollong, she lasted until the ripe old age of 97.
I miss her, and her soup. Have been trying for years to replicate it, butit just isnt quite the same.
Some day I'll crack the code 😀

I like the double entendre in the wording...it made me smile. Perhaps the pious old ladies aren't always so refined as they seem. I remember finding a pint of whiskey beside my grandmother's piano once. She quickly took it from me. Medicinal purposes only you know. But I come from old Scot/Irish Appalachian mountain stock so it seemed sort of funny to me. We have music in our blood.

Learn a new word today, thank you.

I could tell this one means more to you, just by your careful choosing of words. It had a serious note, a loving kind of thoughtfulness... yet imagery as stereotypical of any grandmother. Enjoyed the word play and perspective. I could also tell that you kept most of truth to yourself, not wanting to let the readers in (simply like how someone would describe a sunset, lacking a personal touch or emotion)

I might be wrong, probably am, but either way beautiful piece of poetry.

Some Grannies just can't be controlled! I love the poem, the archetypal Granny, juxtaposed with the Grammy awards which, ' year after year, her decision unfolds'.

Grammy, Granny, Nana, Nanny, Mamaw, Mawmaw, MeMaw: all words for the same old lady whistling and rocking.

This is very sweet for those of us that have memories of a sweet grandmother. Thank you.

Hey, hey, hey, your description of a Granny is not today's Granny, E! I am not in a rocking chair and certainly not priestly either! LOL I enjoyed this though...a look back in time to when we revered our elders and gave them the respect so often lacking today. Lydi**
