Chapter Three (This is How I Disappear)A Chapter by Alyssa
CHAPTER THREE
“I’m dead?” the words slipped off her lips and drained all the panic and confusion she had felt seconds ago. The Ringmaster howled into laughter, suddenly going transparent, far away like his booming voice. The cart gave a horrible shriek as it slightly derailed on a tight curve. The mist gave a curdling wave of chill, dampening the wind that flooded onto Elizabeth, but she hardly noticed it. “I’m dead” at the truthful words, flashing memories played a slideshow before her dewy eyes; her last moments alive… and the reasons why she had banished her life away: her inability to fit-in to her new home in Kentucky, her father’s death, her mother’s negligence, the bitter truth of her inner and outer foulness. They still burned as they did before the blade had taken her life. “I thought the pain would go away” sobbed Elizabeth, more painful memories of her father’s absence and her failed attempts to be a good daughter sizzled under her cold tears. The memories and the pain they possessed intertwined her self conscious and locked her from the atmosphere so she didn’t see the fallen tears burning through her skin to leave a tear dot shape of invisibility. Her body slowly molted into air itself under her tears and it took until her entire arm was consumed to notice.. She looked at what should have been her arm but was just plain scenery of the inside of the cart and the mist. Her hair began to silence its whip once the transformation grasped it and painted it to the world. Elizabeth submerged into invisibility and once the very last bit of her left pinky was taken, she sunk through the bottom of the cart like a bird through air. The only that hadn’t disappeared was Elizabeth’s scream as she descended, invisible, through the mist.
