A Poisonous Wound

A Poisonous Wound

A Poem by William Steele
"

I have felt the knife and still been longing for the one who wields. This is for you.

"

You are the knife, and love the poison.

Into my heart it cuts, afflicting the soul.

A flight of doves pervades there as the poison deepens.

My mind floats with thoughts of flying,

My heart lies upon the sea,

Floating, resting,

At peace.

Until you move away,

The knife now removing.

The poison remains.

The doves now are crows,

The sea, a storm.

Tossed and twisted into a figure of perverse pain.

Your love,

Once beautiful,

Now a curse.

Violence within me grows as a vine,

Reaching into my Heart,

soul,

You see it in my eyes.

This light you continue to flash in my direction,

As a beacon from lighthouse guiding,

Now leads me astray,

Deeper into the depths of poisoned despair.
