Adrian's Hurting

    (In school during passing time. It's Adrian and Nate's Junior year. Adrian is walking up the stairs)

Ryan (Ry): Have a nice trip, freak. (he trips Adrian, sending him down the stairs)

Adrian (A.): (sits up)(whispered) Diabhal e (Damn it). (his wrists and knees are scratch up)(stands up and walks over to the guy, who is still laughing, and socks him in the jaw) Dul chun ifreann! (Go to Hell!)

Ry: (punches A. in the eye and knocks him down)

A.: (gets back up and punches Ry in the nose)

[goes on like this for a bit]

Nathan (N.): (pulls A. away from Ry) Aid', calm down man! Don't over do it!

A.: (pulls away from N. and turns away from Ry) Stay out of this Nate!

Ry: Shouldn't have turned away. (pulls out a knife)(A. hears what he says and turns back around)(Ry stabs A. in the left hip)

N.: Adrian! (runs over to help him)

(A. is crying from the pain and is having trouble breathing)

Random Person: Someone call 9-1-1!

 

[at the hospital]

Rachel (R.): Nate!

N.: Auntie.

R.: Where is he? Is he ok?

N.: Yeah, he's better. He's in here. (he points to the door behind him)

R.: (opens the door) Adrian, honey, are you ok.

A.: Yeah, mom, I'm ok.

R.: How'd this happen?

A.: Uh, well, Ryan tripped me down the stairs and we got into a fight.

R.: Another fight? And he hasn't gotten in trouble?

N.: Oh, he did.... this time. Cops dragged him down to the station and threw him in a cell.

R.: I'm letting this happen any more. I'm getting you out of that school.

A.: What? Mom, no.

R.: Adrian, this is the safest thing to do.

A.: I can't just run away from this.

R.: I don't care, I want you safe. And that's that.
