A Dark Spirit Lingers On

A Dark Spirit Lingers On

A Poem by Ezekiel Silver
"

Year poem was written: 2014

"

A worn out heart weighed down by rage,

          callused from feeling human.

Despair and dark thoughts drown the mind,

giving no room for hope to breath.

Fire burns at the seams of the soul,

          tearing this person apart.

Until all that is left is shattered and broken,

fallen into a great many pieces.

Through this desolate and dismal life,

          a dark spirit lingers on.

Hey, Ezekiel, you paint a very vivid image of a darkened soul, collapsed by inner turmoil, ‘A fire that burns the seams of the soul,’ great metaphor for displaced rage; the question becomes internal, is the desolate lonely soul destined to walk the lonesome road for eternity? Does the depressive state linger foul on the tongue of its host . . . it shall linger on, implies this is so, but the recognition in-and-of itself, implies the glimmer of light upon the horizon, diminutive, but there, thus the trek may become invaluable, a glimmer transforming into a ray, a ray into a harsh glow, and so forth . . . perhaps said lone wanderer will need to shield his eyes, or perhaps not, perhaps, he is indeed walking away from the peek, being consumed by his inner hatred and rage. I must stop here, before I ramble, thanks for the thought provoking read.
